Cambridge is a city and the county town of Cambridgeshire, England, situated on the River Cam, approximately 55 miles north of London. The city's population was around 145,700 as of the 2021 census. Cambridge has been an important trading center since Roman and Viking times. The city received its first charter in 1207 but did not gain official city status until 1951.

Recent developments include the Cambridge East project, planning approximately 8,000 new homes on the city's edge. Two new busways, Cambourne to Cambridge (C2C) Busway and Cambridge South East Transport (CSET), are in the works to improve transport. The expansion of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus is also proposed. Additionally, the government is consulting on establishing a new development corporation to support growth in Greater Cambridge. Plans are also underway for an £80 million redevelopment in North Cambridge, including new council and private homes.
