Solving the Physical Realities of Modular Set Design On the original 1960s television set, crew members constantly rolled large wooden walls out of the way to accommodate bulky cameras and thick cables. To replicate this flexibility, the model uses a brilliant modular system. Designed by model maker Malachi, the replica divides into nine distinct segments held together by high-strength magnets and functional pogo pins. This electrical contact system allows the user to remove a wall for a camera shot without breaking the power loop. The remaining sections reboot automatically upon reassembly. Getting a seamless look is difficult, but the team managed to prevent light leaks around the backlit acrylic screens, maintaining an authentic glow. They even replaced scale-inaccurate carpet with textured sandpaper to simulate the floor finish. The Technical Triumph of Retrofitted FX To capture the frantic energy of the original series, Barry and his team bypassed the fire hazards of 1960s incandescent bulbs, choosing cool-running LEDs. The High Cost of Uncompromising Scale This replica is a massive, premium collectible, not a budget toy. While it lacks physical figures out of the box, it offers space for custom 3.75-inch action figures to bring the command center to life.
