Dune (also known as Dune: Part One) is a 2021 epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve. It is the first of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, primarily covering the first half of the book. The film follows Paul Atreides, whose family is entrusted with the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, the only source of the valuable spice melange. The tone is serious, dramatic, and visually stunning. It was released theatrically and on HBO Max (for a limited time) on October 22, 2021. It is currently available to stream on Max.
