The Atlas Mountain Race is an unsupported, single-stage cycling race that occurs annually in Morocco. First introduced in 2020 by Nelson Trees, the race challenges cyclists to traverse a fixed route of approximately 1,350 km with around 25,000m of climbing. The sixth edition of the race began on February 6, 2026. This year the race started in Beni-Mellal, crossing the Moroccan Atlas before taking riders through the Anti-Atlas and on to Essaouira.
The route primarily consists of gravel, single and double track, and old colonial roads that have fallen into disrepair, with very little tarmac. Riders must navigate the course self-supported, relying on their own skills, preparation, and resourcefulness, with no outside assistance. The race has no prizes, emphasizing endurance and self-sufficiency. Participants often face considerable distances between resupply points, and some walking may be required. The challenging environment, combined with the beauty of the Moroccan landscape and the warmth of its people, makes the Atlas Mountain Race a unique and memorable experience.
