Costa Coffee, legally Costa Limited, is a British coffeehouse chain established in London in 1971 by brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa. Initially, it operated as a wholesale roastery supplying coffee to caterers and Italian coffee shops. In 1995, Whitbread acquired Costa Coffee before The Coca-Cola Company purchased it in January 2019 for $4.9 billion. Costa Coffee has since expanded to over 4,000 stores across 31 countries. Philippe Schaillee has been the CEO since April 2023.
Costa Coffee is the second largest coffeehouse chain in the world and the largest in the UK. The brand offers a variety of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes, pastries, and snacks. Costa also sells its signature blends as ground coffee, whole bean, and ready-to-drink options. In February 2026, Coca-Cola confirmed it would retain full ownership of Costa Coffee after speculation of a potential sale. Costa Coffee was also named the Nation's Favourite Coffee Shop for the 16th consecutive year in February 2026.
