Babylon Health was a health service provider that used artificial intelligence and virtual clinical operations to connect patients with healthcare professionals via a web and mobile application. Founded in January 2013 by Ali Parsa, the company aimed to make healthcare accessible and affordable. Its subscription business model launched in the UK and later expanded to 17 countries. By 2019, it covered over 20 million people and facilitated 5,000 daily consultations.
Babylon Health filed for bankruptcy in the US in August 2023, with its UK operations entering administration shortly after. eMed Healthcare UK, limited, acquired the UK operations, rebranding them as "eMed". Prior to its collapse, Babylon Health faced scrutiny regarding its AI's reliability and potential harm to the public. Despite these challenges, in 2021, Babylon Health had expanded its Babylon 360 services in California. The company had also acquired Meritage Medical Network, Higi, and DayToDay Health. In October 2021, Babylon went public via SPAC at a $4.2 billion valuation. However, by August 2023, its stock plummeted before its bankruptcy filing.
