X, formerly known as Twitter, stands as a prominent American microblogging and social networking service. It is one of the world's largest social media platforms and most-visited websites. Users can share short text messages, images, and videos in posts. These posts were initially known unofficially as "tweets", but are now sometimes referred to as "x's". The platform also provides direct messaging, video and audio calling, bookmarks, lists, communities, Grok chatbot integration, job search, and a social audio feature called X Spaces.
Originally, posts on the platform were limited to 140 characters, but this was increased to 280 in 2017. In 2023, the character limit was removed for subscribed accounts. Users can connect with each other, share thoughts and news, and engage in conversations with a broad or specific audience. The platform employs hashtags, denoted by the "#" sign, to group posts by topic, and the "@" symbol to mention or reply to other users. X offers both personal and business accounts, with business accounts providing additional features for organizations to share their activities and build a following.
