The Nokia Lumia was a line of mobile devices originally designed and marketed by Nokia, and later by Microsoft Mobile. Introduced on October 26, 2011, these smartphones ran on Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system, later Windows 10 Mobile, due to a long-term partnership between Nokia and Microsoft. The name "Lumia" is derived from the partitive plural form of the Finnish word "lumi," meaning "snow".
The Nokia Lumia series included a range of models, from budget-friendly options like the Lumia 520, which became the best-selling Windows Phone device, to high-end flagships like the Lumia 920 and Lumia 1020. Key features varied by model but often included PureView camera technology, wireless charging, and screens usable with gloves. The Lumia 1020 was known for its 41-megapixel camera. While specific pricing depended on the model and carrier, the Lumia 520 was initially priced around €139 (roughly $185), while the Lumia 1020 launched at $299.99 with a two-year contract. Microsoft officially phased out the Nokia brand in 2014, rebranding the line as Microsoft Lumia. Production of new Lumia devices ceased in 2017, with existing devices receiving only bug fixes and security updates. As of 2026, the Nokia Lumia line is discontinued.
However, there are reports of a new Nokia Lumia 400x 5G, which is rumored to launch in August or September. It is expected to be priced around Rs 25,000 in India. This phone may feature a 200MP camera, a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 5000mAh battery with 80W fast charging. It is also expected to have a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 8GB to 12GB RAM, and 128GB or 256GB internal storage.
