The Nintendo Switch 2 is a hybrid video game console developed by Nintendo, released on June 5, 2025. Like the original Switch, it functions as a handheld device, a tablet, and can connect to an external display via a dock. The Joy-Con 2 controllers magnetically attach to the console and can also be detached for separate use. Compared to its predecessor, the Switch 2 features a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, increased internal storage, enhanced graphics, updated controllers, and improved social features. It supports 1080p resolution with a 120 Hz refresh rate in handheld mode and 4K resolution at 60 Hz when docked, with HDR support for both the tablet and compatible external displays. The console is manufactured by Foxconn, with Samsung assisting in chip production.
Key features include a custom Nvidia Tegra T239 processor with an octa-core ARM Cortex-A78C CPU and an Ampere GPU. It has 12 GB of LPDDR5X memory, 256 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD Express cards, and supports Wi-Fi 6. The new Joy-Con controllers have improved ergonomics, magnetic attachment, and mouse-sensor support for compatible games. The dock includes a built-in Ethernet connector and a cooling fan. As of December 31, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 had sold over 17 million units worldwide. The suggested retail price is US$449.99.
