The Nikon ZR is a full-frame digital cinema camera developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema after Nikon's acquisition of RED in 2024. It's the first in Nikon's Z-Cinema series, released in late October 2025. Nikon aimed to capture "cinematic images in one compact body" by combining RED color science and Nikon engineering. It uses the slogan “Born Cinematic”.
The ZR incorporates a 24.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and Expeed 7 image processor. It records internally in formats including Nikon N-RAW, ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ, H.265, H.264, and R3D NE codec. It supports frame rates up to 6K at 60p, has a dynamic range rated at 15+ stops, and features dual base ISOs of 800 and 6400. A key feature is its internal 32-bit float audio recording. It also boasts a 4-inch vari-angle touchscreen monitor. The camera body is lightweight at approximately 540 grams and is weather-sealed.
