The iQFOiL is a windsurfing class chosen by World Sailing as the official equipment for the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics, replacing the RS:X. It's a hydro-foiling windsurfer that, using similar physics to an airplane, allows the board to come out of the water, reaching higher speeds in lighter winds. The iQFOiL is a one-design class, meaning everyone uses the same board, foil, and rigging.
Starboard and Severne are the primary manufacturers, with Patrik also offering approved boards and sails. The complete iQFoil set includes a board, sail, and foil. Key features include a foil with a 95cm carbon mast, a 900 cm2 front wing, and a 255 cm2 back wing. The sail size was originally 9.0 m2 for men and 8.0 m2 for women but starting in January 2025, men will switch to an 8 m2 sail, and women will use a 7.3 m2 sail. Complete packages can range from approximately €7,345 for youth sets to €9,945 for senior men's sets. iQFoil gear is widely available through windsurfing retailers.
