Tesla's "Full Self-Driving" (FSD), also known as "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)", is an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) developed by Tesla, Inc.. While it doesn't provide full autonomy, it aims to handle most driving tasks with active driver supervision. Tesla uses billions of miles of anonymous, real-world driving data to train FSD. FSD is designed to perform driving maneuvers, including navigation, steering, lane changes, and parking. The system leverages onboard cameras providing 360-degree visibility to monitor blind spots and safely execute lane changes while avoiding other vehicles.
As of February 2026, Tesla has shifted to a subscription-only model for FSD. The monthly subscription costs $99. FSD is currently available in the U.S., Canada, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. It is accessible for Tesla vehicles equipped with FSD computer 3.0 or above. FSD builds upon standard Autopilot features by adding Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control and Autosteer on City Streets. Recent tests have demonstrated long-distance autonomous driving capabilities with FSD, though the system still requires driver attention and intervention. Tesla expects FSD to reduce insurance costs.
