Stephen Tyrone Colbert, born on May 13, 1964, is an American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host. He is known for his satirical style and portrayal of conservative pundits. Colbert grew up in a large Irish Catholic family in Charleston, South Carolina, and faced an early tragedy when his father and two brothers died in a plane crash. He is married to Evelyn McGee, and they have three children.
Colbert gained prominence as a correspondent on "The Daily Show" and later hosted "The Colbert Report," a parody of opinion-based political shows. He popularized the word "truthiness" during his time on "The Colbert Report". From September 2015, he hosted "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on CBS, succeeding David Letterman. However, CBS announced that "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would be canceled after finishing the 2025–2026 season. Colbert has also ventured into acting, with a guest appearance on CBS's "Elsbeth" in October 2025, playing a fictional late-night talk show host. In addition, he will be a voice performer in Paramount+'s series, "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy".
Colbert has received numerous accolades, including eleven Primetime Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, and three Peabody Awards. He was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People in 2006 and 2012. His book, "I Am America (And So Can You!)," was a No. 1 New York Times Best Seller.
