I set out to build a robot that could write greeting cards with handwriting indistinguishable from a human's. My early attempts at crafting software to achieve this were a disaster, exposing how tough it is to fool a human eye with mere fonts and basic variations. The real breakthrough came when I shifted to Machine Learning, teaching a neural network to predict pen movements and truly mimic organic handwriting, eventually leaning on an open-source solution. The results were so convincing, they even stumped a forensic handwriting expert—almost.
