Paul Mescal, born on February 2, 1996, is an Irish actor who has garnered international recognition for his emotionally powerful performances. Mescal was born in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. He is the son of a police officer and a teacher. Before pursuing acting, he was an under-21 Gaelic football player but had to quit due to a jaw injury. He graduated with an acting degree from The Lir Academy at Trinity College Dublin in 2017.
Mescal's breakthrough role came in the 2020 BBC/Hulu miniseries Normal People, based on Sally Rooney's novel, where he played Connell Waldron. This role earned him a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his leading role in the 2022 film Aftersun.
