Martins Licis, born on September 28, 1990, is a Latvian-American professional strongman. Licis is best known for winning the 2019 World's Strongest Man competition. He also won the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic and the 2021 Rogue Invitational. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) and weighing around 355 pounds (161 kg), he is nicknamed "The Dragon". Licis holds dual citizenship with Latvia and the United States and represents the United States in competitions.
Beyond strongman, Licis has diversified his athletic pursuits, earning a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt in March 2025. He also won gold at the ADCC San Diego Open in January 2025. In April 2024, Licis withdrew from the 2024 World's Strongest Man competition due to sciatica in his right leg and stated he would take eight months off from strongman competitions to recover. In 2025, he organized the inaugural Santa Monica Classic. Licis also maintains an active online presence through his YouTube series Strength Unknown, documenting his training and global strength explorations.
