Katy Perry, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984, is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality. Raised in Santa Barbara, California, in a strict Christian household, she began her musical journey singing in church. Perry initially pursued gospel music, releasing a self-titled album in 2001 as Katy Hudson, but later transitioned to pop music after moving to Los Angeles.
Perry gained mainstream success in 2008 with her album One of the Boys, featuring the hit single "I Kissed a Girl". She solidified her place in pop culture with the album Teenage Dream (2010), which tied Michael Jackson's record for most number-one singles from a single album.
