Catherine "Kate" Bush (born on July 30, 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, and record producer. Bush is known for her eclectic musical style, unconventional lyrics, and innovative dance performances. Her unique approach to music has influenced a wide range of artists across various genres. Bush began writing songs at the age of 11 and was signed to EMI Records after David Gilmour of Pink Floyd helped finance a demo tape. In 1978, at the age of 19, she topped the UK Singles Chart with her debut single "Wuthering Heights," becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a fully self-written song.
Bush has received numerous accolades, including a Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist in 1987 and an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 2002. She was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2013 for her services to music. In 2023, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
