Joshua Citarella, born in 1987, is a New York City-based artist, writer, and researcher known for his work exploring online communities, internet culture, and the intersection of politics and the internet. His work examines digital image production and networked culture, often presenting dystopian views with glimmers of hope. Citarella attended the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he studied both traditional darkroom photography and digital techniques.
Citarella's notable projects include the "Doomscroll" podcast, where he explores online culture and politics, and "Do Not Research," an online platform and arts collective. He is the author of "Politigram & the Post-Left" (2018), a research project on niche political Instagram accounts. Citarella's art has been exhibited internationally, and he is set to appear in the 2026 Whitney Biennial. He has also been involved with collaborative projects like The Jogging and Ultra Violet Production House. Citarella has served as an adjunct professor at the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of Visual Arts.
