Jon Jones (born Jonathan Dwight Jones on July 19, 1987) is an American former professional mixed martial artist. He competed in both the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Jones is widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. He is a two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, the UFC Heavyweight Champion (2023-2025), and the interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion in 2016. Jones is the eighth UFC fighter to win titles in two different weight classes and the fourth to defend titles in two different divisions. He holds numerous UFC records in the light heavyweight division, including the most title defenses, most wins, and the longest win streak.
Jones retired from mixed martial arts competition in June 2025 but re-entered the testing pool in July 2025, remaining listed as active on the official UFC website. However, recent reports indicate that Jones may be permanently retiring from MMA due to severe arthritis in his left hip, potentially requiring a hip replacement. Despite these health concerns, Jones expressed gratitude for his fighting career and a willingness to "put it all on the line one last time" for a significant opportunity like the UFC White House event. His last fight was in November 2024, where he retained his UFC heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic.
