Huayna Capac (1468-1527) was the eleventh Sapa Inca of the Inca Empire, also known as Tawantinsuyu. Born in Tumipampa (present-day Ecuador), he was the son of and successor to Túpac Inca Yupanqui. "Huayna Capac" translates to "young mighty one". He ascended to power around 1493 amidst territorial expansion and military campaigns.

Huayna Capac is known for expanding and consolidating the Inca Empire, bringing it to its greatest territorial extent. He led military campaigns to suppress rebellions and extend the empire into modern-day Colombia and Chile. He implemented administrative reforms to improve tax collection and reorganized the food storage system. He also strengthened the Inca road network to facilitate communication and troop movement. Huayna Capac rebuilt Quito, Ecuador, making it the "second capital" of the empire. His death triggered a civil war between his sons, weakening the empire just before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.
