Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell, born on December 25, 1961, is a British former socialite currently serving a 20-year prison sentence in the United States for sex trafficking of a minor and other offenses related to her involvement with the deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Born in France and raised in England, she is a citizen of the United Kingdom, France, and the United States. Before her arrest, Maxwell was a prominent figure in social circles in both London and New York. She worked for her father, media tycoon Robert Maxwell, until his death in 1991. Later, she moved to New York City, where she developed a close relationship with Epstein.
Maxwell's association with Epstein led to her conviction in December 2021 on five federal charges related to sex trafficking. Prosecutors argued that she played a central role in recruiting, grooming, and abusing underage girls for Epstein. In June 2022, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison. As of February 2026, Maxwell is incarcerated at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. Recently, she refused to answer questions before the House Oversight Committee, invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Her lawyer stated she would be willing to testify fully if granted clemency by President Trump.
