David "Freddie" Carr is a British professional sailor renowned for his extensive experience in the America's Cup. Carr has participated in six America's Cup campaigns, beginning in 2001 with the GBR Challenge. Throughout his career, he transitioned from a grinder, using arm power to operate winches, to a cyclor, utilizing his legs to power a hydraulic system. His role as a cyclor involved generating the power needed to control the sails and masts of the high-speed AC75 foiling yachts. In October 2025, Carr announced his retirement from the America's Cup.
Beyond his accomplishments in the America's Cup, Carr has joined Musto as an ambassador, contributing to the development of sailing gear. He is also involved with The Foil, a digital media platform dedicated to sailing, where he serves as a senior reporter and analyst. In this role, Carr provides insights and commentary on various sailing events, including SailGP and the America's Cup. Recently, Carr has been involved in racing M32s in Miami and reporting on RC44s in Lanzarote for The Foil. He is also set to participate in the TP Super Series and Mini Maxi sailing events.
