John Henry "Doc" Holliday (1851-1887) was an American dentist, gambler, and gunfighter of the Old West, best known for his association with Wyatt Earp and the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. Born in Griffin, Georgia, Holliday received a classical education and earned a degree in dentistry from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery in 1872. Shortly after starting his dental practice, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was advised to move to a drier climate.
Holliday relocated to Dallas, Texas, and began a career as a gambler. He drifted through various towns in the West, gaining a reputation as a skilled gambler and gunfighter. He befriended Wyatt Earp in Dodge City, Kansas, and later joined him in Tombstone. Holliday's participation in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral cemented his place in Wild West history. Despite his reputation as a killer, some accounts suggest he killed only one to three men. Doc Holliday died of tuberculosis at the age of 36 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Recently, on February 9, 2026, news outlets reported the death of Jeffrey Duncan, an Orlando radio personality known as "Doc Holliday," at the age of 64.
