David Fincher (born August 28, 1962) is an American film director known for his visually stylish and often dark, atmospheric movies. He gained early experience at George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic. By the mid-1980s, Fincher directed commercials and then transitioned to music videos, working with iconic artists like Madonna and the Rolling Stones. He co-founded Propaganda Films in 1986, directing numerous music videos, including Madonna's "Express Yourself" and "Vogue".
Fincher made his feature film debut with Alien 3 (1992). He achieved greater recognition with films such as Se7en (1995), Fight Club (1999), Zodiac (2007), The Social Network (2010), Gone Girl (2014), and The Killer (2023). His work has earned him three Academy Award nominations for Best Director, for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, and Mank. In television, he directed and executive produced the Netflix series House of Cards and Mindhunter. He has also executive produced the Netflix animated series Love, Death & Robots. As of 2024, Fincher is developing an American adaptation of Squid Game and directing The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
