Brandi Marie Carlile (born June 1, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter, producer, and activist whose music spans Americana, alternative country, folk rock, and classic rock. Active since 2004, she gained wider recognition with her 2007 single "The Story". Carlile has released eight studio albums, including her most recent, Returning to Myself. In October 2025, Carlile released Returning to Myself and announced "The Human Tour" for 2026, with dates in North America, the UK, and Europe. The album was produced by Carlile, Andrew Watt, Aaron Dessner, and Justin Vernon.
Carlile has won eleven Grammy Awards and two Emmy Awards and was nominated for an Academy Award in 2025. In 2019, she formed the Highwomen, an all-female quartet, with Amanda Shires, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby. The Highwomen are expected to reunite for the first time since 2023 at Carlile's "Echoes Through The Canyon" concert series in May 2026. Carlile is also known for her activism and philanthropy, particularly through her Looking Out Foundation, which supports various causes, including humanitarian aid, racial justice, and LGBT rights. In February 2026, the Looking Out Foundation announced a new partnership with Procter & Gamble to expand its support for LGBTQ+ communities.
