Anatoly Fomenko, born on March 13, 1945, is a Soviet and Russian mathematician, professor at Moscow State University, and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is known for his work in topology, geometry, variational calculus, and Hamiltonian mechanics. Fomenko has authored over 180 scientific publications and 26 textbooks on mathematics. He also expresses mathematical concepts through original artwork, with over 280 graphic works displayed in exhibits across Russia, the USA, Canada, and Europe.
Fomenko is also widely known for his "New Chronology," a pseudoscientific theory proposing a radical revision of world history. This theory suggests that events traditionally attributed to ancient civilizations like Rome, Greece, and Egypt primarily occurred during the Middle Ages. Fomenko argues that history before 1600 AD was largely falsified to serve various conspiratorial interests. Despite his standing as a respected mathematician, his historical claims are almost universally rejected by mainstream scholars as pseudoarchaeology and pseudohistory due to inconsistencies with accepted dating methods and historical sources. Fomenko continues to head the Department of Differential Geometry and Applications at Moscow State University.
