The White House is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States. It also functions as a living museum of American history. It is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C.. The White House not only houses the President and their family but also accommodates many senior advisors and staff, particularly in the West Wing. The White House Office (WHO) is an entity within the Executive Office of the President (EOP) that supports the president in directing the executive branch.
The White House complex employs approximately 1,800 people. A few hundred of these are considered "White House staffers" who handle presidential events and decision-making. The White House Office is headed by the White House chief of staff, who also heads the Executive Office of the President. Most White House staff are political appointees who do not require Senate confirmation and can be dismissed at the President's discretion. As of February 2026, current initiatives involve strengthening national defense with clean coal, tax refund season due to middle-class tax cuts, and the opening of Trump accounts for children.
