The Famous Project is an all-female sailing team that recently became the first all-female crew to complete a non-stop circumnavigation of the world. On January 26, 2026, the eight-person crew crossed the finish line between Ushant and the Lizard after 57 days, 22 hours, and 20 minutes at sea, setting off on November 29, 2025. While they didn't break the existing Jules Verne Trophy record, they established a benchmark time for an all-female team attempting the challenge. The team was led by Alexia Barrier, a former Vendée Globe competitor, and British co-skipper Dee Caffari MBE, along with an international crew.
The Famous Project sailed aboard the IDEC Sport, a legendary trimaran that previously held the Jules Verne Trophy record in 2017. Throughout their journey, the crew faced numerous challenges, including steering and halyard issues, entanglement with fishing gear that damaged a foil, and a torn mainsail caused by a storm. Despite these setbacks, the team persevered and completed their historic circumnavigation. The project aims to inspire future generations and challenge perceptions of women in competitive sailing.
