Fox News Channel (FNC), commonly referred to as Fox News, is an American multinational conservative news and political commentary TV channel and website headquartered in New York City. Launched on October 7, 1996, by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, FNC was created with the intent to appeal to a conservative audience, hiring Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. The channel is owned by Fox News Media, a subsidiary of Fox Corporation. Lachlan Murdoch currently serves as Executive Chair and CEO of Fox Corporation.
Fox News quickly rose in popularity to become the dominant cable news subscription network in the United States. By 2019, it was the top-rated cable network, averaging 2.5 million viewers in prime time. In March 2024, Fox News was the most-watched news network in total day and prime time viewers. In addition to its television channel, Fox News Media operates Fox News Digital, Fox News Audio, Fox News Books, and streaming services like FOX Nation and FOX News International. The network provides services to 86 countries and territories, incorporating "Fox Extra" segments in international broadcasts during advertising breaks. Recently, Fox News Media announced it would produce a 90-second news brief for Fox Television Stations, highlighting national and global headlines.
