"The Last Duel" is a 2021 epic historical drama film directed by Ridley Scott, based on the 2004 book "The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France" by Eric Jager. The screenplay was written by Nicole Holofcener, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. Set in 14th-century France, the film tells the story of Jean de Carrouges, a knight who challenges his former friend, Jacques le Gris, to a judicial duel after Jean's wife, Marguerite, accuses Jacques of raping her. The events are presented in three chapters, each from the perspective of Jean, Jacques, and Marguerite. The film was released on October 15, 2021. The film became available for streaming on HBO Max on January 14, 2022.
