The axle deadlift is a strength event in which competitors lift a barbell with a thicker bar than a standard barbell. This makes the lift more challenging, demanding greater grip and stability. The event is a staple in strongman competitions, including Europe's Strongest Man and World's Strongest Man.
Different strongmen have set and broken axle deadlift records over the years. In 2021, at Europe's Strongest Man, Graham Hicks and Rauno Heinla broke the world record, with Heinla achieving nine repetitions at 360kg. Gabriel Peña set an axle deadlift world record of 500 kilograms (1,102.3 pounds) at the 2021 Static Monsters Worldwide competition. The axle deadlift continues to be a prominent and exciting event in strongman competitions, showcasing the incredible strength and determination of the athletes.
