Waabi is a Toronto-based AI company founded in 2021 by Raquel Urtasun. Urtasun, a University of Toronto professor and former chief scientist at Uber's Advanced Technologies Group, is the company's CEO. Lior Ron, the former CEO of Uber Freight, joined Waabi as COO in August 2025. Waabi focuses on developing AI-powered self-driving technology for autonomous trucking and robotaxi applications. The company's mission is to create safer, more efficient, and scalable autonomous transportation solutions.
Waabi's core technology includes the Waabi Driver, an AI driver system, and Waabi World, a realistic and scalable simulation environment used to train and validate the AI. This "Physical AI Platform" combines a verifiable AI model with an advanced neural simulator, reducing the need for extensive real-world testing. Waabi recently secured $750 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Khosla Ventures and G2 Venture Partners. Uber has committed an additional milestone-based investment to support a partnership to deploy robotaxis powered by Waabi Driver exclusively on the Uber platform. This deal anticipates the deployment of 25,000 or more Waabi Driver-powered robotaxis. Waabi has raised a total of $1.03 billion across four funding rounds.
