The Hoover Company, founded in 1908 in Ohio by William Henry "Boss" Hoover, is an American home appliance manufacturer renowned for its electric vacuum cleaners. Hoover quickly became synonymous with vacuum cleaners, especially in the UK and Ireland. Originally named the Electric Suction Sweeper Co., it was incorporated in Ohio as The Hoover Suction Sweeper Co. in 1910. Hoover's headquarters are now located in Charlotte, North Carolina, operating as part of TTI Floor Care North America. The company employs around 3,000 people.
Hoover pioneered numerous innovations, including the beater bar in 1926, disposable paper bags, self-propelled models, and edge-cleaning brushes. While initially focused on door-to-door sales, the company adapted to changing times and expanded its dealer network. Although the Hoover brand remains a major player in the European white goods and floorcare sectors under Haier, Hoover North America operates under Techtronic Industries (TTI). In August 2025, Hoover launched a new range of cordless and robotic vacuum cleaners featuring smart technology and powerful suction. Recent products include the Turbo Slim Robot Vacuums and Turbo Sense Cordless Vacuums.
