SailGP was founded in 2018 by Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts. The Spanish team debuted in February 2020.
The team is led by driver Diego Botín and wing trimmer Florian Trittel. Antonio Alquézar is the CEO. María del Mar de Ros formerly held the CEO position. North Sails are the Official Technical Clothing Partner for the Spanish SailGP Team. Santander Private Banking is the main sponsor of the team.
Los Gallos won Season 4 of SailGP. The team secured their first event win at the Los Angeles Grand Prix in 2023. Most recently, the Spanish team was repairing their F50 after a training crash in Perth and were expected to return to racing in Auckland in February 2026. SailGP is selling its league-owned teams, and the Spanish team is in advanced talks regarding a sale.
