Jaguar is a British multinational car manufacturer known for producing luxury vehicles and SUVs. The company's origins trace back to 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, founded by William Lyons and William Walmsley, initially producing motorcycle sidecars. By 1935, the company released its first sports saloon model, the SS Jaguar. In 1945, the company officially changed its name to Jaguar Cars Limited.
Today, Jaguar is owned by Tata Motors, an Indian automotive manufacturer. In 2008, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar and Land Rover, fully integrating them into Jaguar Land Rover Limited in 2013. The CEO of Jaguar Land Rover is PB Balaji. In February 2021, Jaguar announced that the entire Jaguar range would become all-electric for the 2025 model year. However, recent reports indicate a strategic shift, with Jaguar aiming to reposition itself as an ultra-luxury, all-electric brand. This transition involves halting production of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and preparing for a relaunch with prices roughly doubled. The company unveiled the Type 00 concept car in late 2024, foreshadowing a four-door saloon with over 1,000hp from three electric motors. The production model is expected to be revealed in the summer of 2026, with customer deliveries commencing in Europe in the first half of 2027.
