Hasselblad is a Swedish manufacturer renowned for its high-quality medium format cameras, photographic equipment, and image scanners. Founded in 1841 in Gothenburg by Fritz Wiktor Hasselblad as a trading company, the company's photographic division gained prominence through Arvid Viktor Hasselblad's interest in photography. Initially distributing Eastman Kodak products, Hasselblad began producing its own cameras, including aerial cameras for the Swedish military during World War II. Today, Hasselblad is owned by Chinese drone manufacturer DJI, who acquired a majority stake in 2017.
Hasselblad cameras are known for their exceptional image quality and have been used in various high-profile applications, most notably by NASA during the Apollo program missions, capturing iconic images of the first moon landing. The company produces approximately 10,000 cameras annually from its headquarters in Gothenburg. While historically known for its classic analog medium-format cameras, Hasselblad has embraced the digital age, introducing the world's first digital compact mirrorless medium-format camera, the X1D-50c, in 2016. As of February 2017, Paul Bram was appointed as interim CEO. In 2025, Hasselblad launched the X2D II 100C, its best digital camera to date, and awarded photographer Sophie Ristelhueber the 2025 Hasselblad Award.
