Fidelity Investments, legally known as FMR LLC, is a financial services company offering a wide array of products and services. Founded in 1946 by Edward C. Johnson II, the company has grown into one of the largest asset managers globally. As of December 2024, Fidelity Investments has $5.9 trillion in discretionary assets under management and $15.1 trillion in assets under administration. The company provides services such as brokerage, mutual funds, investment advice, retirement services, wealth management, and life insurance. Fidelity also offers clearing and back-office support for financial services firms, and supports a donor-advised fund called Fidelity Charitable.
Fidelity's current CEO is Abigail Johnson, who has held the position since 2014 and also serves as Chairman since 2016. Johnson is the granddaughter of the founder, Edward Johnson II, and her family owns approximately 40% of the company. Recent news includes Fidelity's launch of no-fee cryptocurrency trading in individual retirement accounts in April 2025 and the announcement of their own stablecoin, the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD), which is scheduled to premiere on the Ethereum network in February 2026. In January 2024, Fidelity was among the first to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF, and in July 2024, it launched a spot Ethereum ETF.
