Costa Coffee, a coffeehouse chain headquartered in Loudwater, Buckinghamshire, England, was founded in London in 1971 by brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa. Initially a wholesale operation supplying roasted coffee, it expanded to include coffee shops. Costa was acquired by Whitbread in 1995 and then by The Coca-Cola Company in January 2019 for $4.9 billion. Philippe Schaillee is the current CEO, appointed effective April 10, 2023.
Costa Coffee operates over 4,000 stores in more than 31 countries. The company offers a variety of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes, pastries, and snacks. Costa is known for its signature blend 'Mocha Italia'. In addition to its coffee shops, Costa operates Costa Express vending facilities. Costa Coffee is extending its partnership with Sainsbury's and plans to open 30 more sites in the retailer's locations by the summer. However, Costa is closing its first and only coffee bar in Belgium. Despite some challenges, Costa Coffee was named the Nation's Favourite Coffee Shop for a record 16th year in 2026.
