Citigroup (Citi) is a multinational investment bank and financial services company headquartered in New York City. It offers a range of financial products and services, including asset management, banking, commodities, credit cards, equities trading, insurance, investment management, mortgage loans, private equity, and wealth management. Citi has a presence in over 100 countries and jurisdictions. The company operates through two primary segments: the Institutional Clients Group (ICG) and Personal Banking and Wealth Management (PBWM). ICG offers investment banking and corporate banking services, while PBWM includes Citibank, a retail bank and major credit card issuer, and wealth management services.
Citigroup was formed on October 8, 1998, through the merger of Citicorp and Travelers Group. However, its origins trace back to June 16, 1812, with the founding of the City Bank of New York. Jane Fraser is the current Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. In recent news, Citigroup has been selling off parts of its Mexican retail bank, Banamex. The company struck deals to sell an additional 24% stake in February 2026 to investors. Also, Citigroup is revamping its corporate banking leadership structure under Vis Raghavan. As of February 2026, Citigroup has a market capitalization of approximately $207.57 billion (€175.48 billion).
